Conservancy seeks Shotgun House docents; training to start April 2

A new docent training class at the Shotgun House will begin Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at 2520 2nd St., Santa Monica. The presenters will be Laurel Schmidt and Mario Fonda-Bonarsdi, architect.

The Shotgun House offers docents the rare opportunity to actively engage visitors in looking at and talking about the house and its exhibits. Docents create interactive conversations that transport visitors back to Santa Monica in the early 1900s while teaching them about the importance of historic preservation.

Those who are fascinated by colorful stories of Santa Monica’s past, have a passion for preservation and enjoy conversing about architecture, history and other big ideas, this is your opportunity Docent Training
• History of the Shotgun House and its rehabilitation
• Architectural styles in the nearby Third Street Historic District
• Santa Monica history
• Basic preservation concepts
• Creative strategies for engaging visitors.

Docent Schedule

Upon completion of the training, docents will be asked to volunteer twice a month for three-hour shifts. The Preservation Resource Center is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by appointment.
