The Soundwaves new music series at the Santa Monica Public Library presents a concert of the music of Daniel Rothman at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 5 in the Main Library Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium, at 601 Santa Monica Blvd.

Venice-based composer Daniel Rothman introduces two major works: “The Long and the Short of It,” performed by internationally recognized classical guitarist Mak Grgic, and “Park Bench,” played by the Los Angeles Saxophone Ensemble, led by virtuoso experimentalist Ulrich Krieger.

Rothman’s music has been recorded by artists ranging from Quatour Bozzini to Wadada Leo Smith.

In addition to composing, he has taught at CalArts and organized new music concerts at venues including Beyond Baroque, UCLA’s Fowler Museum, and LACMA. He was also a co-founder of the Soundwaves.

Soundwaves is a concert series featuring composers and performers who appear on the DRAM (Database of Recorded American Music) streaming service.

The Santa Monica Public Library is the first public library to offer this service to its cardholders. Listings of past and upcoming Soundwaves shows as well as sound and video recordings are at SoundwavesNewMusic.com
